Wondering what you could make with just ONE skein of Caron Cake? Here’s an idea!!

Materials:

Half Double Crochet Dishcloth:

Chain 30.

Half double crochet (HDC) = Yarn over, insert hook into the chain space, yarn over, pull through all three loops on hook.

HDC into second chain from the hook and into each chain space until you reach the end of the row. Chain two and turn.

Skip the next chain space (the chain 2 counts as the first HDC) and continue the pattern until your dishcloth reaches 10” x 10”.

Tie off your work and weave in your ends.

Make x2

C2C or Corner-to-Corner Dishcloth:

Increasing:

Chain 6.

DC = Yarn over, insert hook into yarn space, yarn over, pull through 2, yarn over, pull through 2.

Double crochet (DC) into the 4th chain from the hook. DC into next two chains. Turn block.

Every row will begin with this when you are increasing: Chain 6. DC into the 4th chain from the hook and into the next two chains.

Interior blocks: Slip stitch into the next chain 3 space on the next block to connect them. Chain 3. 3 DC into the same chain 3 space.

Slip stitch to connect next block and repeat.

Mine were 12 blocks diagonal before I started my decreasing so they would be approximately the 10” x 10” to match the size of my two half double crochet dishcloths. (See how I measured it to make sure they would be the same size? 😉 )

Decreasing:

Once you reach your desired length, you can begin decreasing. Each row will have one less block than the row before it and you’ll decrease until you complete your last block in the other corner.

In the beginning of the row, slip stitch the first 3 stitches. Slip stitch into the chain 3 space like you would to connect the blocks and do 3 DC into the same chain 3 space.

Complete the interior blocks like normal:  Slip stitch into the next chain 3 space on the next block to connect them. Chain 3. 3 DC into the same chain 3 space.

At the end of the row, just slip stitch into that chain 3 space and turn.

Continue the decrease pattern until you finish the last block.

Make x3

Tie String:

Chain approximately 150 chains and tie off. You can use this to tie the dishcloths together to give it a nice finished look! These also make great housewarming presents!
