Hanging Terrarium with Air Plants

I’ve been wanting to make a hanging Terrarium like this one for a long time now! A neighbor of mine was giving away some really cool sticks, so I figured now would be a great time to finally make it!

Materials:

• Large Stick
• Terrarium globes
• Air plants
• Hemp Rope/String
• Hook for Hanging

Step 1:

Soak your air plants in room temperature water for 1 minute to revitalized them after shipping. It’s important to follow the guidelines that come with the air plants to avoid any damage to them by shocking. If you are using tap water, you have to let the water sit out for a minimum of 1 hour so all the chlorine evaporates. It’s also important that the water isn’t too cold, because that may also shock it. 

Step 2:

Let your air plants dry completely!

Step 3:

Figure out where you’d like to hang your terrarium. I placed mine in front of my window in my bathroom. Cut a long piece of the hemp rope and tie it to both ends of your stick.

  

Step 4:

Insert the hook into the ceiling so the stick can hang directly in the middle of your window. I just used my hand to push and twist the hook into place, but you could probably also use a wrench.

Step 5:

Hang your stick with the hemp rope attached to the center of the hook and straighten it out until it hangs evenly. Cut off any excess rope once you get your desired length and placement.

Step 6:

Carefully unpack your terrarium globes and tie a piece of hemp rope to the top loop. I did mine in varying lengths, but you can do this part however you want to. Tie the rope with the terrarium globes to the stick in any order you’d like to. I did mine with a long one, short one, long one, etc. to add some cute interest.

Step 7:

Tie a cute bow with the extra hemp rope to add an extra delicate detail.

Step 9:

Figure out which air plant you want where and start filling up those globes! I ordered a variety pack from Amazon, so I tried to split mine up a little bit.

  

  

Watering:

Water your air plants in room temperature water fully submerged for 2-3 minutes about once a week. Allow to dry on a towel fully before placing them back into the globes. There are some really great guides out there for care instructions that you should check out for your location because you may need to water more or less depending on your conditions. The number one problem with air plants dying though is usually due to over watering.
