Nightshift Shawl Review with Breaking Yarn Kit

Are you interesting in knitting the Nightshift Shawl but unsure which colors to put together? There’s a kit for that!

Materials:

The Pattern:

The pattern requires Worsted Weight Yarn. In my previous post, I used fingering weight yarn and didn’t fully follow the pattern. It took way too long and was still pretty small, even with all the extra sections I added.

This time, I decided to follow the actual pattern, but with a small twist. Andrea Mowry gives you the “formula” to knit the pattern however you would like, but also provides color options to follow if you are not feeling very adventurous or don’t really feel like thinking about color placement.

I decided to use my own yarn color placement. – See more about that in The Yarn section!

If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll know that I love all of the Andrea Mowry patterns I have done so far! They are easy to follow and well written!

The Yarn:

I used the Nightshift Shawl Kit from Breaking Yarn! The Kit includes six full-sized skeins of worsted weight yarn for less than purchasing them separately! All yarn is 100% Superwash Wool! Each skein is 220 yards per 100 grams, so you’ll definitely have some left over! I had the most left over of the accent colors (Hazmat Suit, Crystal Meth, and Walter White).

The kit includes:

1 Skein Breaking Violet

1 Skein Breaking Princess

1 Skein Marie Schrader

1 Skein Hazmat Suit

1 Skein Crystal Meth

1 Skein Walter White

To complete this look:

Do not follow the directions for the colors as A, B, C, etc. Instead, you’ll use the colors in this fashion:

Section 1: Breaking Violet as your background color (also your cast on color) with Hazmat Suit as your contrasting color.

Section 2: Breaking Violet with Crystal Meth

Section 3: Breaking Violet with Walter White

Section 4: Breaking Princess with Hazmat Suit

Section 5: Breaking Princess with Crystal Meth

Section 6: Breaking Princess with Walter White

Section 7: Marie Schrader with Hazmat Suit

Section 8: Marie Schrader with Crystal Meth

Section 9: Marie Schrader with Walter White

Section 10: Breaking Violet with Hazmat Suit
