The new Kate Spade Wedding line of sparkly Keds came out and they are super adorable! However, they retail for $85.00! I thought, “I could make a cheaper version of these New York Champion shoes”, so I did! These cost me about $30!

Materials:
- White Canvas Shoes (I purchased these from Target)
- Mod Podge (Spray/Paint)
- Sponge Paint Brush
- White or Silver Glitter
- White Ribbon Shoe Laces
- Tape
Step 1:
Remove the existing shoe laces that came with the shoe. Save them for another pair of shoes or another project?
Step 2:
Tape the sides and sole of the shoes to avoid getting glitter on the sides where you don’t want it. I used painters tape because that’s what I had handy, but I think any type of strong tape should work.
Step 3:
Paint a thin layer of the mod podge all over the shoe where you want the glitter. Make sure you get in the little crevices to avoid having any bald spots.
Step 4:
Sprinkle the glitter on the shoe and leave in place. Allow time to dry (at least 20 minutes). You may need to repeat step 3 depending on if you missed any areas. Allow more time to dry if you had to repeat step 3.
Step 5:
Shake off any remaining glitter from the shoes. Remove the tape blocking off the sides and the soles. Shake out any glitter that may have fallen inside the shoe during the process.
Step 6:
Put your shoes in a well ventilated place or on a surface that is covered. I like to use a box anytime I’m going to spray something. This help contain the mess and clean up is really simple.
Step 7:
Seal the shoes with additional mod podge. I found it easiest to spray the shoes rather than using the paint mod podge for this step. Allow time to dry and spray one more coat.
Step 8:
Thread the new ribbon laces where the original laces used to be. You may have to push a little glue and glitter out of the way if any got into the holes!
This is fabulous! I wish I had done something like this for my wedding. By the time I could sit down for the first time, my feet were killing me! This might also be something fun and cute to do with my four-year-old daughter!
Thank you, Mary Kate! Me too…my feet hurt so bad after that day/night and couldn’t get rid of my wedding shoes fast enough! 🙂 I’d love to see yours if you try them– Use the hashtag #MichaelisCrafts
