Materials:
- 1 Cup Baking Soda
- 1 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
- 1 Gallon Hot Water (Depending on machine tank capacity)
- 10 Drops Melaleuca Essential Oil (Tea Tree Oil) (Click on SHOP and search for Melaleuca)
- Carpet cleaning machine
Step 1:
Vacuum the area you’ll be cleaning to pick up any dust or particles that could get stuck in your machine while cleaning your carpets. I love my Dyson V6 vacuum cleaner!
Step 2:
Sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet in the area you’ll be cleaning. I like to use a mason jar and a lid from an old parmesan cheese container so it doesn’t come out too fast or in chunks.
Step 3:
Mix up your cleaning solution:
Hot Water
1 Cup Vinegar
10 drops of Melaleuca Oil
Step 4:
Use your machine as directed to clean the area like normal. The baking soda and water/vinegar mixture will react and do the hard scrubbing for you before it’s extracted from the carpet. I especially love the melaleuca essential oil because it’s a natural disinfectant and it leaves the carpet smelling wonderful and fresh!
My machine is the Hoover Quick and Light, but it seems like they don’t make it anymore. If I had to purchase a new one, I would buy this one because it has really good reviews and looks like it would do a nice job!
I like to push the machine forward while holding down the trigger to release the solution evenly on the carpet in multiple small rows. Then, I’ll go back to my first small row I started with and begin slowly pulling the machine back to extract the water solution into the machine. Extract as much water as you can so your carpet can dry faster!
Repeat in all areas that need to be cleaned.
Step 5:
Empty the machine’s dirty water and clean out all of the parts, hoses, etc. You may be surprised how dirty the water is! At least, I know I always am!
Step 6:
Allow carpets to fully dry. You may want to vacuum again to make sure it’s completely cleaned. Enjoy your clean carpet!
We just got a new puppy, so this is perfect!
That’s part of our problem, too! 🙂 What kind of puppy do you have?
Is the tea tree oil safe for pets? Thank you for the idea, just what I was looking!
From what I’ve read, it is safe in small concentrations! I’m so glad I could help!
Thank you I just got the same machine today, we got a puppy about month ago and she has peed a few times and our bathroom has flooded, so I’m gonna try this out.
Awesome!! Those puppies sure are cute, but they’re a lot of work!
