The Pattern:

The pattern was designed by Michelle of GetKnitFacedinCO. I obtained this pattern for free through Ravelry during the quarantine straight from the designer and a special she was doing. The pattern is available for purchase in her Ravelry for $3.50. The designers most other patterns are dishcloths with words on them, but she does have some hat designs as well.

I loved the look of this pattern. I thought it looked like a difficult pattern to complete, but it was actually quite simple. It’s a mixture of knits, yarn overs, and knit 2 together stitches. So, if you can do those, you can make this hat! There is also a ribbing which is made up of knit and purl stitches.

The pattern was well written and easy to follow. However, I think it’s not a true adult sized hat though. When I finished it, it seemed small. I was right! It was not the size I would have knit for myself, but it was a one size fits all hat pattern.  It could have been my gauge I guess, but I haven’t had this issue before with a pattern.

As the pattern is right now, I would not knit this hat again. Unless, I was planning on making it for a child. Then, it would fit perfectly!

There are some alterations I would make to the pattern if I were to knit this pattern again. I would add at least 1 more full stitch repeat to add some height to the hat, which would make it more comfortable.  I might also figure out how many more stitches I would need to add to make it a little bigger around as well.

The Yarn:

I got this yarn from Breaking Yarn. This is a new colorway called Pink Teddy Bear. I dyed this yarn with the intention of testing out the yarn base to see if I should carry this base in my regular shop. If you want this base in the shop as a regular base, please let me know!

This was a fun colorway to knit up and I love the end results on it! It is a solid pink with black speckles.

This yarn is the Super Bulky Weight. It’s 70% Superwash Wool and 30% Superfine Alpaca; 100 grams of yarn is 87 yards! It was more than enough for this hat and would still be more than enough even if the hat was made to be a bigger size.

Overall, I really enjoyed working with the yarn. I’ve never worked with Alpaca before, so I was surprised that it ‘sheds’ a little bit while you’re knitting it. Other than that, it’s really soft and is the perfect blend of materials for a hat!

The Pom Pom:

The Pom Pom is an Angora fur Pom Pom in grey from my Etsy shop! It has an elastic band, so it’s incredibly easy to attach to the hat! I think it just finishes the hat nicely.
