Upcycled DIY Dog Chew Toy

Do you have some clothes that are too ratty to donate? DIY a dog chew toy!

Materials:

  • 3-4 Old t-shirts
  • Thread
  • Sewing Needle

Step 1:

Cut the bottom rim and top off of the t-shirts. You’ll be left with a straight square.

Step 2:

Cut the square up the seam to make one large piece.

Step 3:

Cut the piece into three different strips.

Step 4:

Stack the three strips together and tie a knot at the top. Braid the three pieces in a simple three strand braid. Tie a knot at the bottom. Set aside.

Repeat for as many shirts as you have and try to make them in similar lengths. I did it to four shirts.

Step 5:

Gather the shirts together at the top and sew to keep them together. Be sure to secure it really well since puppies and dogs will be chewing on it! 🙂

Step 6:

Complete a three or four strand braid for the shirts to tie them together. Here’s how to do the four strand braid:

LEFT: Move A over B; A under C;

RIGHT: D under A; D over C.

Repeat process with the same 4 positions (letters will change though)

Step 7:

Once you’ve braided to the end, sew the other ends together so they will not come apart. Trim any excess threads.

Step 8:

Give it to your dog and watch them play, tug, and chew on your newly made toy!
