DIY Salt Dough Yarn Bowl

Love the yarn bowls but don’t want to spend the money to purchase one? You can easily DIY your own with 3 ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen!

Materials:

1 Cup All-Purpose White Flour

1 Cup Salt

1 Cup Water

Rolling Pin

Bowl

Oven (optional)

Paint (optional)

Step 1:

Mix the three ingredients together in a large bowl or stand mixer. Add additional flour to a clean surface so the dough doesn’t stick.

Step 2:

Roll out the dough with the rolling pin on your surface until all the areas are the same thickness.

Step 3:

Place the dough into your bowl of choice and press the dough onto the sides. I chose one that was oven safe and a size that would work for a yarn bowl.

Take a knitting needle or something with a skewer type end and make a hole in the side of the bowl big enough for the yarn to come through it.

Step 4:

If you want to bake your dough in the oven, heat the oven to 200-225 degrees. Place your bowl in the oven for 4-5 hours, or until completely dry.

If you want to air dry it, leave it in the bowl on the counter for approximately 5-7 days. This process definitely takes the longest!

Step 5:

Once your bowl is completely dry, remove it from the bowl you used as the mold. You may need to use a knife or something to loosen up the edges a bit.

Step 6: (optional)

Spray paint your bowl to make it look pretty! I put my bowl in a cardboard box so I could contain the spray paint and not make a giant mess indoors. I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Spray. I seriously love this stuff!
